Background

A. Introduction

Syangja Hospital, located in Kumal Gaun, Putlibazar Municipality -3, Syangja District, Gandaki Province, is a public health service provider under the Ministry of Health, Gandaki Province Government. This hospital is also a referral hospital for Garhou Primary Hospital, Waling and other health posts. Spread over an area of 23.07 ropanis, Syangja Hospital has been providing affordable and quality therapeutic, remedial and promotional services to the service recipients of the local community at low costs. Due to its quality service delivery, it has been acting as the main and responsible health institution of the district and has also been working as a referral center for all health institutions across the district.

B. Development of Provincial Hospital Putlibazar Syangja

It was established as a health center in Syangja district before 2057 BS. Although the District Hospital Syangja with 15 beds was approved to be under the District Health Office Syangja in 2057 BS, due to lack of manpower and physical infrastructure, it was converted into the District Hospital Syangja by establishing an inpatient services with 15 beds and starting maternity services. According to the decision of the Ministry of Health on 2061.05.20 BS, 10 beds were added and 25 beds were approved to be operated with its own resources and it has been in regular operation. Since 2074 BS, it has been under the Gandaki Province Government as the District Hospital Syangja and services such as dialysis service, newborn treatment service, PICU, Geriatric Ward, and social service unit have been added. Currently, it operates under the Gandaki Province Ministry of Health with 56 beds.

Provincial Hospital, Putalibazar,  Syangja is located about 33 kilometers west of the provincial headquarter, Pokhara, and is about 1 kilometer from the Siddharth Highway.

C. Priorities and goals of  Province HospitalSyangja

Long-term vision: To upgrade the hospital as a center of trust for the general public of the district and beyond & contribute towards the creation of healthy, productive, responsible, and happy citizens.

Goal: To ensure access to quality health services at the public level by developing and expanding a robust health system.

Objectives:

· To develop and expand health services by making maximum use of available resources and means.

· To gradually transform the health sector into a public-use and service-oriented sector by increasing the responsibility and effectiveness of hospitals for accessible and quality health services.

· To promote a healthy lifestyle by making service providers and service recipients more responsible by increasing access to and consumption of health services.

· To assist the government in achieving the government's commitments and sustainable development goals in the health sector by providing quality health services.
